Fair, Fast Random Selection for the Classroom
Why Use a Random Name Picker?
Cold-calling on the same handful of confident students, or always picking the first name on the list, quietly skews classroom participation. A random name picker removes that unconscious bias โ every student gets an equal, verifiable chance of being called.
No-Repeat Mode Explained
With No-Repeat Mode on, each student is removed from the active pool the moment they're picked. This guarantees a full class is heard from exactly once before anyone can be selected a second time โ ideal for structured cold-calling or roll-call-style participation.
When to Turn Repeats Back On
For quick, low-stakes picks โ choosing who goes first in a game, or picking a single volunteer โ repeats usually don't matter. Turning No-Repeat off lets you spin again immediately without needing to reset the whole pool.
Randomly Splitting Into Groups
The Make Groups mode shuffles your entire roster using a fair randomization algorithm, then distributes students evenly across however many groups you specify โ useful for breaking up friend groups and mixing ability levels for project work.
Where Teachers Use This
- Cold-calling during discussion-based lessons.
- Picking presentation or reading order fairly.
- Selecting a volunteer for a demonstration or task.
- Randomizing project or lab partner groups.
- Choosing turn order for classroom games and activities.
Tracking Who's Been Called
Every pick is logged in the history list below the spinner, along with a running tally showing exactly how many times each student has been selected โ useful for confirming participation is genuinely spread across the whole class over a term.
